Pine Street and the Mighty Mutation Circus
A circus with mutated animals. A twelve-year old runaway. Pine Street sneaks in to see Merimar’s Mighty Mutation Circus because the mysterious triskele symbol on the circus poster could be a link to the mother who abandoned him as a baby. Getting caught changes his life forever.
Pine isn’t trying to change his circumstances, but when he brushes his hand over the smooth jaw of one of the mutations, he feels something he has never felt before. A connection. Offered a job, he eagerly accepts… and his traveling adventure begins. He and the circus are besieged by government adversaries, persistent protesters, unknown antagonists and even a natural disaster
Not everyone likes circuses or mutations. Protesters are given their own area, called the ‘pit’ and they march at every show. Circus security cannot figure out who is behind it, but the anti-mutation crowd is being paid and their numbers are growing.
Pine is unfamiliar with basic technology when he joins the circus. His attempt to research the triskele on his Techmo draws him into the realm of the Department of Investigation and Security, a powerful government agency. The DIS perceives the symbol as the sign of a secret, anti-government organization. His inquiry endangers him and the circus.
His new friendships give him a sense of family… and purpose. He works hard and loves life. But it quickly becomes apparent that he has joined a declining company. The mutations are old and their abilities are waning. Even so, this new life is far better than living on the streets scrounging for simple meals.
The circus faces adversity and Pine struggles to help. The odds are stacked against him. He’s young and inexperienced, but he has heart and he has loyalty. Will that be enough?
Pine Street and the Mighty Mutation Circus is the first of a planned trilogy.
